Electricity 2026 (IEA)

February 24, 2026

This IEA report analyses the rapid growth of global electricity demand as electrification accelerates across industry, transport and buildings. It also highlights rising demand from AI, data centres and other fast-growing technologies.

The report provides forecasts for electricity demand, supply and CO₂ emissions by country, region and globally for the period 2026–2030. It also examines how power systems will need more flexibility to integrate a growing mix of generation sources securely and cost-effectively.

For Repower, the report is relevant because it frames the transition of electricity systems around grid flexibility, demand response, batteries and the changing role of existing power infrastructure, including coal power plants.
